FOR NATURAL GAS EMERGENCIES CONTACT TRANSCO ON FREE PHONE   0800 111 999
First, follow these procedures:-

The following gas emergency procedure should be followed at all times, e.g. when a gas escape occurs.
Always familiarise yourself with the location of your gas emergency control valve beforehand.
If you can not
locate your emergency lever and you can smell gas, contact Transco or your gas emergency service IMMEDIATELY.

DO NOT

  • Smoke or strike matches.
  • Operate electrical switches ON or OFF, including telephones and door entry systems.
(use a neighbours phone where possible). Transco will knock on your door, so go and open the door manually,
not with a door entry phone as this may cause a spark.

DO

  • Put out naked flames.
  • Open doors and windows.
  • Check to see if the gas has been left on, or a pilot light has gone out. If so, turn the appliance off. If not
there could be a gas escape.
  • Keep people away from the area affected.
  • Turn of the gas supply at your meters emergency control valve.
  • Ensure access to premises.
  • Phone emergency services- for natural gas in England, Wales & Scotland contact Transco's National Gas Emergency call centre -24 hr- on 0800 111 999.   In Northern Ireland contact Phoenix Natural Gas on 0800 002001.
For emergencies involving LPG call your local supplier [see below for description of LPG] or call 0845 7 444 999 for bulk tanks.

Natural Gas [NG]

YPS specialise in Natural Gas appliances. We do not work on LPG or Oil.
Natural Gas is the gas supplied to most homes in the widest populated areas of the UK.
In all cases a gas meter is supplied to record the gas used. Meter's vary from prepaid (you top-up by card),
to monthly direct debit or quarterly bill. Your meter number will be quoted on your gas bill.
If in doubt contact British Gas or your alternative supplier.

Liquid Petroleum Gas [LPG]

Commonly called 'Bottled Gas', LPG is characteristically different to Natural Gas.
A person handling LPG gas has additional (or different) qualifications to a person dealing exclusively with Natural Gas appliances.
Bottled gas is stored outside your premises and no meter is needed as you pay for the gas upon delivery.
****Try yell.com for 'LPG'.

Oil

Oil fired appliances also need engineers specially trained & qualified to work on oil fired appliances.
This fuel is delivered by tanker to your outdoor storage tank.
Look for the following symbol in your local directory.
